What Are Snap-In Dentures?
Snap-in dentures, also known as implant-supported dentures, replace multiple missing teeth by clipping securely onto titanium implants placed in your jawbone. Unlike traditional dentures that rest on your gums and rely on suction or messy adhesives, snap-in dentures connect directly to artificial tooth roots for a rock-solid fit.
This added security is especially valuable for replacing lower teeth, since conventional bottom dentures are well known for being unstable. With a stable foundation anchoring your denture, you can chew, eat, and speak with a level of confidence that traditional dentures simply cannot match. At Auburn Dentures & Implants, Dr. Kessler helps patients throughout Auburn, Lewiston, and the greater Androscoggin County area enjoy a stronger, more comfortable smile.

Who Should Get Snap-In Dentures?
Not sure if it is time for a new set? These are some of the most common signs:Snap-in dentures are an excellent choice if you are missing most or all of your teeth in an arch and want more stability than a traditional denture provides. They are also a great option for patients who are tired of loose lower dentures or dealing with adhesives every day.
As with any implant treatment, you will need enough jawbone density to support the implants. If your bone has deteriorated over time, bone grafting can often restore the volume and strength needed for successful implant placement. During your consultation, Dr. Kessler will evaluate your specific situation and recommend the option that best fits your needs.
How Snap-In Dentures Work
- The implants. A small number of titanium implants are placed into your jawbone, where they fuse with the bone over time to create a strong foundation. Each denture implant includes the implant, the abutment, and the snap attachment.
- The denture. An implant ready denture is fitted with matching attachments on the underside, so it clicks firmly onto the implants. When it is time to clean it, you simply unsnap the denture and snap it right back into place.
Because these snap-on dentures attach securely to your implants but can be removed for daily cleaning, they typically require only a small number of implants, which keeps treatment more approachable for patients who have experienced some bone loss. If you are already comfortable removing a traditional denture to clean it, that familiar routine continues, now with far better stability.
If you prefer a permanent, fixed set of teeth that never comes out, a full-arch solution like All-on-4 may be a better fit. Dr. Kessler can walk you through both during your visit.
Benefits of Snap-In Dentures
- Bone preservation. The implants stimulate your jawbone, helping to prevent the bone loss that comes with conventional dentures. This maintains your facial structure and helps you avoid the sunken appearance that can develop over time.
- Stability and comfort. Because your denture snaps securely into place, it will not slip while you speak or eat. Snap-in dentures fit more comfortably and reduce the gum irritation that comes from a denture rubbing against your gums.
- A better eating experience. With stronger chewing power and a secure fit, you can enjoy tougher, harder, and stickier foods that were off-limits with traditional dentures, which is better for your diet and your nutrition.
- A natural appearance. Snap-in dentures look more natural because they stay in place and do not shift or move unnaturally when you speak or smile.
- Great value. Snap-in dentures typically cost less than a fixed full-arch solution, while offering far more stability than a conventional denture.
